Day 18 & 19 Hilton Head Island SC

Day 17, Hilton Head Island SC

Today was "The Rugby", SA against USA. Henry and I decided we were going to find some place that screened the game. The girl in the office(who was very familiar with every bar in town) advised "The British Open Pub" with vague directions to get there. After a fruitless search time was running out when we stumbled on some other pub, Henry went in to ask directions, came out 2 minutes later, some chic offered to show us where it was saying follow her white truck. a white bakkie pulled out of a parking spot at great speed followed by another white bakkie coming round the corner, believe it or not but before we got going a third white bakkie was in the que. I was frantically trying to keep an eye on the front runner when a hand came out and pointed to a shopping center, we eventually pulled up next to her and she said it is in this center. Well it took another 10 minutes before we found "the British Open Pub", the Boks were 7-0 in the lead when we entered the pub. Long story short we saw the game and the Boks did us all proud at the expense of the USA... Of course after the game Henry wanted to thank the lady in the white bakkie for her kind help, first we had to find "the other pub", well we did, Henry went in to find the kind lady, her name was Ria and by now somewhat inebriated, well Henry bought her a drink as a thank you and explained to her and the fellow inebriates the South African connection, of course by now SA has many new fans.

Day 16, Hilton Head Island SC

This is what holidays are made of.  Good company, good relaxation, good scenery and good weather.  Today the sun finally came out, but we should not complain because I think we have been extremely lucky, considering the rest of South Carolina has been declared a state of emergency, because of all the flooding.

After quite a lazy day, we took a drive, in our hired car, to South Beach.  To get there you drive through the most spectacular area, with enormous tree and houses nestled in between them.  It definitely is a holiday destination, with people strolling, walking and mostly cycling.  I know one member of our family who would love to be here.

We are re-assessing our journey North as the I95 road that we would normally take to go to the planned stop of Myrtle Beach and Charleston, has been closed due to the flooding and both those towns are under water.

Day 15, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Another rainy day, not surprising since the northern coast of South Carolina has drowned....
We are staying here for about a week, seems our plans to visit some coastal town up North will need rethinking.

Day 12, st Augustines

Today was sight seeing in St Augustines.  Like a lot of  historic cities in America they have this wonderful transport system.. A bus picks you up at the location you are staying at and transports you down town where they then have a trolley system, which is a guided tour with the driver doing the narration.  One can then see the city by getting on and off the trolley at the various points of interest.

We found this a very interesting city with beautiful old architecture.  Here is a little bit of its history.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will be moving up to Hilton Head.
